🚶 Scout Section Adventure Hike
Scout Hike is Sydney North Region’s flagship annual event for Scouts (ages 11‑14). Designed for both challenge and enjoyment, it’s a weekend of lightweight hiking and exciting activities in a NSW State Forest, open to Scouts from across the state.
📌 What Is Scout Hike?
Scout Hike is a competitive, patrol‑based adventure, where Scouts navigate through the forest using map, compass, and grid references. Set across multiple Sleep Points, each patrol completes a series of 20–30 activity bases over a weekend, earning points for planning, leadership, teamwork, attitude, and performance.
|
-
Patrols are bussed into the forest on Friday evening and stay in one of six leader-run Sleep Points.
-
Activities begin Saturday morning and continue until afternoon, with camps, challenges, and evening rest.
-
Sunday offers final activities before finishing at the designated Finish Point where results and awards like Gold, Silver, or Bronze are presented.
🧭 Why Scout Hike Matters
-
It builds real-world navigation, planning, survival, and teamwork skills.
-
ScoutHike encourages lightweight hiking and smart packing—each Scout carries no more than 20% of their body weight.
-
Scouts gain leadership through duty rotation, developing confidence and responsibility.
-
The event is supported by Venturers, Rovers, Leaders, and adult volunteers, who design activities and run Sleep Points.

📅 Typical Format (May Weekend)
- Friday Evening: Patrols travel to forest, check into Sleep Points, plan routes, set up camps.
- Saturday & Sunday: Complete up to 30 activity bases—ranging from compass challenges to bush craft—while hiking between bases and camping overnight.
- Awards Ceremony: The top 12 patrols earn Gold, the next 24 Silver, and all other patrols receive Bronze—ensuring collective recognition.
