🐾 Scouts (Ages 11–14) at North St Ives Scout Group

Scouts is the third youth section in Scouts Australia for boys and girls aged 11–14. The Scouts program fosters confidence, leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills through challenges and experiences in a supportive patrol environment.

Within a Unit, youth members are organised into patrols that rotate leadership responsibilities. Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders guide activities, with support from adult leaders. Decisions and program planning are driven by youth through Unit Councils, using the Scout Method’s Plan–Do–Review approach.

Scouts progress through Scouts’ Achievement Pathways, including Milestones, Special Interest Areas (SIAs), and Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS). The highest award in this section is the Australian Scout Award, a challenging journey requiring leadership, project work, and adventurous experiences.

  • Pioneering — building rafts, tall structures, and camp gadgets

  • Rogaining & Orienteering — navigation over terrain with map and compass

  • District & Regional Events — camps, hikes, and Scouts NSW gatherings

  • Bushwalking & Multi-day Camping — overnight hikes and backpacking

  • Camp Cooking — mastering open-fire meals and menu planning

  • Survival Skills — first aid basics, shelter building and risk awareness

  • Leading patrols during camps and hikes

Each activity aligns with the four Challenge Areas—Outdoor, Community, Creative, and Personal Growth—to ensure Scouts develop across all spheres of SPICES (Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional, Spiritual)
